Hō‘ailona’s Health & Science Updates

OCTOBER - NOVEMBER 2010  ~

  1. It has been a very busy couple of months for everyone.  Hō‘ailona has been very busy working on his various projects and has been making great progress with everything.  His first publication will be going in for review soon and we are all very excited about getting the information we are learning about Hawaiian monk seals out there for everyone to learn from.  Stay tuned for more information.

  2. Hō‘ailona continues to showcase his desire to work with his trainers by being very enthusiastic about all aspects of daily life.  Anytime cleaning tools, research tools, or enrichment tools are brought into his living area, Hō‘ailona is right there, front and center, to explore the new item and make sure it passes his inspection.  His bold and courageous demeanor continues to develop as he begins to enter into his adolescent years.

  3. In addition to Hō‘ailona’s health and science updates, we will be beginning to highlight some of the major issues facing monk seals today in Hō‘ailona’s Conservation Observations area of the website.  We have included the first installment this month.  Check it out by clicking Conservation Observations and get involved.  Spread the word on how local schools can inspire the next generation and get involved now to help save the species from going extinct.

Don’t forget to check out the CONSERVATION OBSERVATIONS to find out how you can help make a difference!
